Does the Activating Serum boost hair volume? Review + Demo! 🥰

Here is how I’ve been using the Collective Laboratories Activating Serum as part of my usual post-wash hair routine!

💁‍♀️My Hair type/concern 💁‍♀️
I dyed my hair last summer to a grayish brown and it required 2 rounds of bleaching (to a level 7). I do hair masks very regularly but the bottom 2/3 of my hair is usually pretty dry.
🚿I wash my hair every 2-3 days depending on how much I sweat.
😞Have been worried about hair loss a bit more this year due to stress and health

🍼Packaging - Apothecary style brown glass bottle with dropper, simple and elegant
👃Scent - very pleasant medicinal scent from the ginseng and other natural ingredients
🍯Texture - light yellow liquid
💫Ingredient highlights - this serum’s two start ingredients are ginseng root and biotin, natural ingredients that strengthen the roots and promote microcirculation. Other great ingredients include lilac stem cells, pumpkin seed oil, burdock root, hydrolyzed jojoba esters, and various natural oils. I highly recommend you checking out their ingredient breakdown! They list the purpose and origins of a great list of ingredients. Click here

🧖‍♀️How I Use It 🧖‍♀️
I use this as a post-shower serum before I blow-dry my hair in the following steps
-Towel dry scalp
-Comb out any knots
-Section hair for precise application, full syringe for whole head
-Apply and massage for a minute until a slight warming sensation occurs and eases. The serum is very light so it is easy to spread around as I massage it, I do not feel it clinging to hair strands or clumping up. I like to re-apply whatever is left in the syringe to where I part my hair and around my hairline where my baby-hairs are.
-Blow-dry!

👀Benefits 👀
✨First thing I noticed is that it provides a boost of volume after my blow-dry, and the volume helps pretty well throughout the day.
✨ A more long term effect I’ve noticed is that my scalp doesn’t get as itchy anymore! Even on day 3 or day 4 hair, where my natural oils make my hair pretty “gross”, my scalp doesn’t feel itchy.
✨Hair loss - I have noticed less shedding since I started using this serum almost every time I wash my hair. See a comparison of my hair-part below! (Both day 2 or 3 hair)
Conclusion!
If you haven’t cared for your scalp, now is a good time to start. It has been a stressful year so far so we can all use a little help to prevent stress-induced hair-loss of other hair problems. I highly recommend trying this serum out! Apply apply apply 😉

I have same issues, shedding is a really big issue, and bottom 2/3 is really dry and frizzy, I could use volume for sure, very thin hair! This could really benefit me alot!! Here's hoping lol

Thank you for this review! I have the same issues as you...shedding, bottom 2/3 hair dry as can be from overprocessing, thinning at the part. I applied to review this product, i could really use something to help with my hair. I currently use HASK Keratin shampoo and Biotin conditioner. This has helped with my volume and i have baby hairs trying to come back! I could use a little extra boost to add to my regimine, i love that you use it before your blow out!😃

Nice results! I applied for the hair serum and hoping to test this too!

I need something for my thinning hair. I have been shedding and lost volume since the pandemic. You gave great instruction and example which has shown me that this serum might be just what I need. Thank you

Great review. I need this for my hair. It's looks like it did a great job.

I definitely need to be focusing on my scalp and I need to find a product that I like and that meets my specific wants and needs. I don't wash my hair other than bout once every 2-3 days and i have experienced some itchy scalp in the past but I can't even recall when exactly that had been. I also noticed that I was starting to experience flaking and flaky dandruff because I had grown my hair back out over the last few years or 3 and I have not cut it other than the trim i would do the little few times i had which honestly was nothing noticeable when I had done it. But I don't do much for volume now with long hair back, and when I had my short, stacked bob i loved the 'big sexy texturizing powder' and 'big sexy big hair ' if I remember correctly. Idk sometimes I miss my hair and then other times i just want to let it grow until it is just insanely long haha but its its harder to take care of when it is too long

The results look amazing!!! I'm dying to see who the winners are for the Activating Serum. I've been trying to find products and research ideas to make my hair grow and look fuller but it's either way too expensive or doesn't work...least this shows results. I really want to give this a try. Thanks for sharing your results and great review too.

I have been wanting to try this hair serum ever since I heard about it on here! I really hope I get to try it! It sounds perfect for me! Ok so I fortunately haven't had to deal with much maskne but I do get acne. If I do have a breakout though, I like to use Murad Acne Control Clarifying Cleanser. It's really refreshing, tingly, and helps clear up any acne problems. As for my hair? To add volume I like to use moose or volumizing shampoo and conditioner. I have think, dry hair so I mainly use hydrating products over volume. Anyway, hope you are all having a great day!

Oh my gosh, it looks great! I’ve never tried these type of serums. Instead, I wash my hair with shampoo and conditioner, dry it halfway, and then brush through it to let my hair look a little wavy.

  • Sushi

I will definitely think about trying this. It looks hydrating for the scalp. My hair has been feeling dry lately, so what I do is wash my hair with shampoo, use the Garnier Papaya Hair Mask, towel dry my hair a little bit, and then use hair styling cream if I want to style it.

  • Hibah

This serum looks great. I think I could add this to my hair care routine because I am all about getting volume in my hair! Since I’m growing up, I do have some hair that is falling out. It isn’t very dramatic, but it’s noticeable. For my quarantine hair, I first take a shower, use the Moroccanoil treatment featured in the rewards store, flip my hair downwards and blow dry it that way so it can get some more moisture, towel dry the excess water, brush the hair gently, and then style. I have oily hair, so showers can be frequent to keep it normal. I hope it works for you too, if you want to try it out.

It has been a every stressful year. I too have seen a slight increase of hair loss. I can see a big difference in the two days. I really want to try this product it looks promising. If I want a little more volume in my hair I usually use a dry shampoo with volume or hair spray. My hair falls flat more so. My hair is very straight and doesn't hold any style. I need some help. If this product will help and minimize hair loss I really want to try!

Great review! With the pics and video ... thanks for sharing all the information! I also have oily scalp and hair loss problem 😬!! I need to wash my hair every alternate day otherwise my scalp stinks 😷... I made my own oil with Jamaican black Castor oil and coconut oil and apply , then shampoo ! It has reduced my hair fall and also I take biotin supplements for hair growth !

  • Bre Walker

Nice review! I use lifting spray and dry shampoo usually to add volume and lift to my hair. I love the Redkin and Joico lines.

  • Valeria

I’ve always been worried about hair loss since I suffer occasionally from breakage also I need to keep an eye always on my hair products. What I do is to mix different essential oils and apply directly on my scalp every other night. I massage for approximately 5 mins right before I sleep and it’s been giving results. I never heard of activating serums so I really appreciate the information. It would be amazing to try it. Thanks for sharing!! ❤️

Nice review and hair products are always good to try to find the right one that works best for you. When I find products I like I tend to stick with them and I have several that I alternate back and forth with so my hair doesn't get used to only one thing.

  • Pauline

Sounds like a good hair activating serum. Collective to the rescue. I commented on this yesterday. Anything is worth trying once. Try combing hair and drying lightly instead of heavy brushing. Don't hurry wet hair and pulling hair down. I tend to get many haircuts per year to avoid heavy wet hair hanging down and pulling back. Want to try this post too.

  • Lauren Cabrera

I have begin to get cystic acne on my neck and hair line. I definitely have noticed some major hair loss due to stress and have been taking biotin supplements to help.

  • Rukhsana

i have experiance mask acne, because every area will look clean and clear but i end up getting 2 pimples after use, which is weired. i dont do anything to combat it as i feel ignoring pimples is the best way to not leave any marks behind. i flip my entire hair down and use the hair dryer and when my hair dries up, i flip my hair back up and theres alot of volume.

  • Deanna Straub

Great review. I really want to try this serum now. It has some great ingredients and you did a great job showing that it makes your scalp feel good. I am extra interested in the "less shedding" aspect. Thank you very much

  • Tonilynn Rosario

Great review. You can really see the volume once done blow drying. I do scrubs on my hair and masks only.

  • Amy

I have a lot of hair loss and it’s probably the hardest thing for me to watch. After having a mastectomy and stoping radiation but hair has some new growth, but thank you for showing this to me and explaining scalp care. I Must try this now thanks for information again doll .
