Summer Skincare Secret: Icing Irritated Skin

I recently discovered this skincare secret and I truly wish someone told me YEARS AGO.
As you might know, if you follow me, I've been struggling with acne along my jawline for the last couple of months. While doing some research on the clusters of tiny bumps I've been experiencing, it came to my attention that they might actually be heat bumps.
While acne takes place when dirt and oil clog oil ducts, heat bumps occur when sweat gets trapped in sweat glands.
I haven't seen a dermatologist yet, so I'm still not sure whether they are heat bumps, hormonal acne, or a mixture of both. In my research what I DID find is that using a cold compress is a remedy for both heat bumps AND acne, so I decided to try it. To my happy suprise, it really worked!
It makes sense - icing is a great way to reduce inflammation so the skin can heal itself, and also tighten pores so they are less susceptible to oil, dirt, and sweat.
Now I ice my face whenever I come back from taking my dog for a long walk in the heat of the San Fernando Valley, and my skin is finally clearing up!
Has anyone ever heard of this technique before? I definitely hadn't!

I have used cold towel on my face and it helps cool off in summer. I am glad you found the solution for your skin.

Never heard of icing.. but growing up my mom always told me to get a cool washrag and lay over my face to help pull out the heat, then I'd put on some aloe vera on my face.

Great tip, I'll have to try this after doing yard work to see if it helps. Thanks.

Awesome! Thank you trishesmusic! I have never known this trick either. It absolutely does make sense and it's great advice. I am living proof at 52 years old that "you learn something everyday" and in some cases you CAN teach an old dog new tricks. Great job

To calm down my skin after being out in the sun, I typically use aloe vera, but preferably fresh aloe vera. I also use The Antidote Daily Cooling Lotiom by Skyn Iceland because it has a cooling sensation when applied. I also try to use products with cucumber in them. If I get really sunburnt, I made sure to keep whatever part of my body, regularly apply aloe vera, and moisture.

A cold compress is a beautiful thing! It's so simple and effective. When I think of irritated skin during the summer, I'm always reminded of aloe vera based products. They are soothing too.

This a great idea. I am going to try this myself. I been to dermatologist for my skin they gave me a cream and an antibiotic I was told to take for 12 weeks twice daily and it made me sick and the face wash and cream made my face worse. But thank you so much for sharing this info I am going to try this,!!

Not a bad idea thanks! I like to take my lavender face mist and put it in the fridge. Then on hot days a spritz a little on my face and it is so refreshing! I highly recommend it! My skin care routine doesn't change that much because I still focus on hydration. My skin gets really dry in the winter and summer it's still dry just not as bad. I also focus more on Sun protection in the warmer months (yet I always use sunscreen!) For Sun relief I use aloe vera! I love using aloe vera on sunburns.

Lovely dog! That's a great tip! Thank you for sharing. I need to try that for my pores. My favorite products to calm my skin after sun exposure are Olay and Jergens moisturizers. My base makeup routine doesn't necessarily change during seasons, I just make sure to apply more hydrating products in the summer than usual.

Awesome video! I use foundation and moisturizer with spf. I also use sunscreen when I'm out in the sun for long periods of time, and use aloe gel after sun exposure.

I'm pretty lucky that I do not struggle with acne,my problem is dry skin!

Sounds wonderful for you if it is working with the ice on the jaws. Personal experience with oily and broke out skin that is visible I would try a Apricot Scrub. I tried St. Ives they all should clear up your oiliness skin. It will open your pores and air your skin out to breath. Let me know. Thanks.

This is a great informative video for younger people who have acne. At my age I don't get pimples often and when I do they usually are the whoppers that get big with white heads in the corner of my nose.

Icing skin is perfect for eczema. I do it all the time. It helps so much. During the summer, I try to use less makeup because my skin becomes so oily. I like to use a matte primer and more translucent powder. After exposure to sun, I use aloe Vera gel and a cooling cream like the one by by Dr. Brandt.

This stuff really helped my face when i have dermititis breakouts .... So i really hope it helps you too plus it smells so good ...

my base makeup routine does not change with the season, the only extra step i add in the winter is a spritz of the smashbox primer water for extra hydration and dew. i love using the aveeno skin relief face cream to sooth and relax my skin after sun exposure.

What a great suggestion! I'm glad it is working for you! That heat is torture and will cause havok on our skin. Glad the ice packs are working for you!

    Great post and acne tip!

I didn't think of that! I live in Florida, so the heat is on all year long.

  • Serena

What a great tip and you could see how it benefited your skin. This is such a great video (🎶 obviously) the way you went back to show your skin from past videos, the weather, the google search etc! Awesome job Trish

This is something that I did not know. Your acne wasn't that noticable to me because your face was is so pretty. Who would look for it unless they were trying. I guess you noticed more because it was affecting you. Thanks for the tips on the ice and thanks for sharing.
